Chinook is B.C Sport Fishing’s “Crown Jewel”.
Reliable Guide and Charters targets the King of Salmon trolling in the Douglas Channel, jet boating the Kildala, the lower, tidal portions of the Kitimat, and drift boating the Upper Kitimat River.
Chinook Fishing in the outer waters of the Douglas Channel starts in mid May. The Kitimat Harbour Chinook Fishery starts to heat up at the end of May and will continue into mid to late June.
As the Chinook migrate in the lower sections of the Kitimat River we target these big Trophy Chinook with our jetboats. The timing of the Kitimat River Tidal Fishery is usually mid June into early July.
The timing of these King Salmon in the Kitimat River driftboat trips are mid June to the end of July.
When the timing is right and the runs are strong we offer jet boat trips to the Kildala River.
Chinook is the name of these salmon as they are referred to in regulations. Sportfishers also refer to the larger Chinook as Tyees, Kings, Spring Salmon and Trophys. I just call them “Big and Mean”!
The Record Chinook on the Kitimat River is 74lbs.
Chinook: multiply the girth squared x length x 1.54 divided by 1000 (inches)
